It's approaching Christmas Eve and, thanks in large part to the care that Jeanne continues to receive at Hillcrest Care Center, I'm looking forward to celebrating another Christmas with her.
Prior to the progression of Jeanne's MS, we enjoyed some wonderful Christmas holidays together. As her symptoms began to seriously (and rapidly) progress, I opted to create what were admittedly some very self-indulgent holidays for us to share.
Now, our Christmas holiday is quite different. There aren't any gifts to exchange. There isn't a holiday meal to enjoy. And there aren't any friends dropping by. But there is my wife's enduring smile. There is the great joy that we find in spending time together. And there is the re-affirmation of our love.
It's taken us a while, but I think we've finally gotten down to what this holiday is supposed to be about.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. May your holiday be filled with all of those things that are truly meaningful and important to you, along with lots of joy, smiles and laughter. I'll be back in the new year to continue our journey.
